PRP Treatment Q & A

What are PRP treatments?

PRP treatment, or platelet-rich plasma treatment, involves injecting your own plasma back into your body after processing to activate your body’s natural self-healing abilities.

Used in various branches of medicine, PRP treatment is a safe and effective way to treat and improve a variety of medical and cosmetic dermatology issues.

How does PRP treatment work?

The process of undergoing PRP seems quite complex, but it comes down to simple science. A small amount of your blood is drawn and put into a sterile tube. This tube is placed in a centrifuge where it is spun to separate out the different components of your blood: white blood cells, red blood cells, platelets, and plasma.

The red and white blood cells are removed, leaving behind plasma that contains a higher concentration of platelets. This is referred to as platelet-rich plasma.

Afterward, the PRP is injected into the problem area to trigger new cell growth and the healing of surrounding tissues. It promotes collagen production, smooths and tightens skin, softens wrinkles, and promotes hair growth for those with thinning hair or alopecia.

Is PRP Safe?

Due to the fact that PRP treatments use your body’s own platelets and growth factors, PRP treatments are incredibly well tolerated. Because of their safety and universal benefit, they are able to be used to treat a spectrum of injuries or concerns.

PRP has safe and effective applications for joint injuries, hair loss, cosmetic concerns, and more. The team at RAOOF MD Dermatology will listen to your concerns and help you choose the best PRP procedure for your specific needs and goals.

Microneedling is a cosmetic procedure that creates controlled micro-punctures to the skin for natural rejuvenation. It promotes natural healing by boosting blood flow and collagen to the skin surface.

Microneedling can be used to treat acne scars, pigmentation (brown spots), large pores, stretch marks, fine lines and wrinkles, abnormal skin texture, and more.

At RAOOF MD Dermatology in Encino, CA we are happy to offer microneedling combined with nutrients from your own body.

What should I expect?

Before microneedling, our team at RAOOF MD Dermatology will apply a topical numbing cream so you can relax during the procedure. During the procedure, your provider will use a microneedling pen to resurface the skin and promote collagen production. After the procedure, your skin may be red for 1-3 days, but will be glowing shortly after.

We recommend doing microneedling once a month for at least three to five months depending on your skin condition. After completing initial treatment, we recommend maintenance treatments every six months.

Can microneedling be combined with other treatments?

Yes! We recommend combining microneedling with extra restorative substances and nutrients from your own body. By combining the two, you will optimize your results!
