Understanding Hair Removal

Imagine being able to remove unwanted hair permanently without needles, pain or the side effects of electrolysis With our new hair removal laser center, nothing touches your skin except a gentle focused beam of light that penetrates deep into the hair follicle, removing the hair with little risk of infection, pigmentation or scarring.

In the past, the usual remedies for unwanted hair were plucking, shaving, waxing, or chemical depilatories. Some are painful, some are messy, and all are only temporary.

For long-term hair removal, electrolysis is popular and effective but painful and slow. Hair by hair, an electric current passes through a needle to destroy the hair root’s ability to grow. It typically takes months or even years of regular visits—even for small areas, like the upper lip. Risks include electrical shock, infection and pitting or scarring.

Now there’s a more effective solution, the LightSheer Diode Laser, a state-of –the-art system specially designed to remove unwanted hair faster, less painfully, and more reliably than electrolysis.

Understanding Laser Treatment

A laser produces a beam of highly concentrated light. Different types of lasers produce different colors of light. The color of light produced by a particular laser is the key to its effect on hair follicles.

The light emitted by the LightSheer Diode Laser is absorbed by the pigment located in hair follicles. The laser pulses for a fraction of a second, just long enough to vaporize the pigment, disabling several follicles at a time to eliminate or significantly impede the hair’s regrowth.

Importantly, LightSheer’s special contact-cooling hand piece is perfect for woman’s sensitive skin. It directs the laser energy to the hair root while protecting and cooling the surrounding skin.

What You Can Expect

The length of a laser session may be a few minutes to an hour or more, depending on the size of the area being treated. Because the laser tends to treat hair follicles that are in an active growth phase, more than one treatment may be required to disable hair follicles that subsequently enter this growth phase.

The appearance of the treated area immediately after a laser session will vary from patient to patient depending on the extent of treatment and skin type. Immediate after-effects, if any, are minor. They may include redness and swelling, which disappear in a short time. Most people return to normal activity right away. Photorejuvenation

As the last of the Baby Boomers (those born 1946 to 1964) turn 40 this year, the popularity of aesthetic procedures that aim to turn back the clock is skyrocketing. Brown spots, broken capillaries and other fallout from photoaging are easy targets for systems that use broadband light to repair these defects through a process called photorejuvenation. Additionally, facial wrinkles can now be treated non-ablatively, contributing to a more youthful appearance.

Using relatively low-energy, short-pulse broadband light, imperfections such as erythema of rosacea, superficial telangiectasia, dyschromia, age spots and other discolored signs of photoaging can be gently heated and eliminated, replaced by newer, younger looking skin.

Using 1064-nm, infrared laser energy to heat the skin's microvasculature and provide dermal heating that stimulates the growth of new collagen, facial wrinkles can be eliminated easily and non-ablatively.

What is AFT Skin Rejuvenation?

AFT Skin Rejuvenation is a series of AFT Light Treatments that improve the appearance of Rosacea, flushing, sun damaged skin, age spots, skin texture, and photo aging. The treatment also improves mild acne scars reduces large pores, corrects dark circles around the eyes, and reduces fine lines. This exciting treatment involves little or no “down time”. You can resume normal activities immediately.

How does the treatment work?

An intense light is applied in a series of gentle pulses over the treatment area. Without damaging the skin, the light penetrates through the skin and is absorbed by the abnormally dilated vessels or pigmentation. The heat impairs the vessel or lesion, and the body begins its natural healing process. The lesion will darken before it flakes off or is absorbed by the body. Treatment can be given as frequently as every three weeks.

How many treatments will I need?

For optimal results, a series of 5 treatments are recommended. Some patients see significant improvement in 2 to 3 treatments; others require more. Follow-up treatments may be desired once a year to maintain results.

What is a treatment like?

Treatment may vary from 15 to 45 minutes. First, the treated area is cleansed and a cool gel is applied. When the pulse of light is delivered, the sensation of discomfort is minimal. After treatment, the gel is removed, the skin cleansed, and sunblock is applied. A topical anesthesia can be used for maximum comfort, for sensitive skin a cool compress is applied following treatment.

Are there any possible side effects?

Side effects are rare. Immediately following treatment, the skin may appear flushed, brown pigmented spots may appear darker, and capillaries may be more visible. In rare instances, temporary swelling and/or blistering can occur. Limiting sun exposure for several weeks before and after treatment will greatly minimize the risk of complications.

What improvement will I see?

Patients have a high degree of satisfaction with their results. Many have seen 70% to 90% improvement. After successive treatments, the skin will feel smoother and appear to have more even tone.

“Spider veins" are found in over 100 million Americans, and now, removing these veins is easier than ever! The veins are treated by injecting them with a small amount of solution, which constrict the veins, and make them disappear. The injection is virtually painless.

Spider Veins, "Sclerotherapy", is a procedure in which a sclerosing solution is injected into a blood vessel with a fine needle. This action causes the lining of blood vessels to swell and shrink thereby eliminating the incompetent veins. After the sclerosing agent has been injected, the vein fades to a point where it is no longer visible.

From 10 - 30 blood vessels can be injected per session. Discomfort is minimal because the needles used are very small.

Because of the manner in which veins feed each other, veins are treated starting at the top of the legs. Veins may sometimes have to be injected more than once before they become less apparent because larger veins "feed" smaller veins so large veins must be treated first.

Though you may experience some initial bruising you can expect an approximate 75 percent improvement in the appearance of leg veins after several treatments. Full results may not be apparent for about 3 months. Redness and bruising following treatment usually disappear within a few weeks.

You may also experience an aching feeling in your legs for the first day or two following treatment. You may be asked to wear elastic support hose following your sclerotherapy treatments. Though rare, the possible side effects of sclerotherapy include brown marks on the skin, allergic reaction to the sclerosing agent and ulcers (more common in patients who smoke cigarettes). While the veins treated by sclerotherapy will not come back, new blood vessels will appear over time.
